{"id":41,"date":"2006-07-12T15:02:00","date_gmt":"2006-07-12T22:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gravity7.com\/blog\/film\/2006\/07\/scanner-darkly.html"},"modified":"2006-07-12T15:02:00","modified_gmt":"2006-07-12T22:02:00","slug":"scanner-darkly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gravity7.com\/blog\/film\/2006\/07\/scanner-darkly.html","title":{"rendered":"Scanner Darkly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gravity7.com\/blog\/film\/uploaded_images\/images-738817.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gravity7.com\/blog\/film\/uploaded_images\/images-737769.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>This from a friend of mine&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>the performances alone assure it massive cult status.<\/p>\n<p>but the technical rendering makes it a masterpiece.<\/p>\n<p>What happens is that its shot in live action, and you see some slow fades <br \/>periodically from live into the photoshoppy animation &#8216;effect&#8217; &#8212; of the <br \/>live images, but along the way, shit slides into full animation.<\/p>\n<p>example: you are looking at Winona Ryder&#8217;s hair flowing in a convertible&#8217;s <br \/>wind. it starts slightly real, progressed through demi-real stages until the <br \/>next second its a total animation, you are looking at whipping strands of <br \/>hair like in anime, and then snap!<\/p>\n<p>The action or dialog usually, takes you back into another level of &#8216;reality <br \/>treated&#8217; images. Because the main or background images are constantly (but <br \/>slowly, artfully, no dizziness here) shifting &#8212; in reaction to whose point <br \/>of view, or what was taken, or mainly just because the subjectivity shifts <br \/>in the dialog&#8230; shit happens to the surface..<\/p>\n<p>And the drama, of course is about an undercover cop who wears an identity <br \/>suit that oscillates through a million faces and clothes&#8230; and you watch <br \/>people in these suits have discussions&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>ANd so, smoke something and get a feel for &#8220;Substance D&#8221; !!!<\/p>\n<p>Its nuts, Robert Downey Junior is like a miniature, more jewish psychotic, <br \/>(name blanked)! FUN!
